NATURAL GAS FRACKING AN ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER
Fracking is a type of gas drilling that injects millions of gallons of hydraulic fluids - a mixture of chemicals, water and sand - into a well to create pressure that cracks open rock underground, releasing natural gas. This process can deplete and contaminate local water, damage the environment and threaten public health.
Fracking is a threat because it can deplete and contaminate local water. Since the fluids contain toxic chemicals, they can damage human health and the environment if they make their way into local water supplies through leaks, spills or underground injection.
After fracking, some water flows back up the well along with the gas. This wastewater is difficult to dispose of safely because it may contain toxic fracking chemicals, as well as dissolved solids it picks up underground, some of which may be radioactive. And, methane freed up because of the fracking can make its way through the ground into household wells, which can cause wells and houses to explode because it is highly flammable.
Although the industry argues that fracking is safe, there have been numerous documented cases of water contamination near drilling sites. This is a concern for many communities around the country that have seen a recent increase in drilling using these methods. Starting with the Barnett Shale, in Texas, drillers have turned their attention to shales in Michigan, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. The Marcellus Shale, which covers parts of Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland, has attracted the most attention.
The government must protect public water from damage from hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. Join Food & Water Watch and urge Congress to put a national ban on fracking in place.
Fracking is the most insidious corporate genocide, eco-cide profit-mongering annihilator today. Added to it's sister merchants of death:oil, coal, nuclear and GMO's. Decades of toxic practices have saturated the planet and babies born today are saturated with chemicals. Fracking, over a short period of time, initiates seismic activity as evidenced by the proliferation of earthquakes in recent months WHEREVER hydrofracking reigns. Texas is poisoned, PA and 4 other states I have personally experienced: I have seen water that kills, that bursts into flames, diseased livestock and dying people, I've even witnessed birds flying overhead where fracking takes place, drop dead out of the sky. It should be mandatory for every politician to view the documentary GASLAND - as a country we are on our descendant because of our BAD choices and our greed and our contempt for the sanctity of life - even if you are "PRO-LIFE", you deny the necessities of life to live! Planned parenthood, healthcare, education, a roof over a child's head while you back the banks foreclosing on them! It's iS beyond hypocrisy, it is now the greatest Crime committed against the American people in history. You ONLY represent the MERCHANTS OF DEATH who commit genocide and eco-cide, turning a blind eye, a deaf ear. Stop poisoning our drinking water, exposing untold thousands of adults, children, animals etc. to cancer causing chemicals just to make a profit. It is time for social responsibility, people need to wake up and demand that these practices for huge profits, disguised as an answer to our energy problems, be stopped and held responsible. These big corporations need to stop lying to the media. If our drinking water is contaminated, our lakes and rivers and oceans, poisoned, then we can all say goodbye. People of America and the World. it doesn't have to be that way. There are healthy alternatives and many of which has been suppressed and kept from the public. Educate yourselves. Corporations can still make money by doing good things for people, planet and the environment, check out the ones that are doing good things. We will not get a second chance once our waters are poisoned, we will all suffer.
